The Characters

Artemis Fowl. Artemis is the main protagonist and despite being just a human, he is perhaps the most unusual of the lot.

The thing that sets Artemis apart from everyone else is that although he is just a child, being in the age of 12, his manner is that of an adult. His choice of words could move people in an instant, making him a potential world leader in the future. In addition his pass-time revolve around improving his intelligence and planning his next adventures.

Artemis is unarguably a genius, not just for his age but as well as the other age groups or other species. Artemis, at a very young age, is the mastermind of all his adventures. His imagination is way beyond everybody and his knowledge is unparalleled, well, maybe Sherlock Holmes could match him. However, whenever plan fails or any other physical aspects of the plan is present, Butler, his bodyguard is always to the rescue. Artemis does the thinking, Butler does the execution. That’s how things happen between Artemis and Butler.

Butler. Domovoi Butler, also known as Butler, is a bodyguard. However, he is not like any other bodyguard that can be easily taken down and outwitted by more comprehended individual threat to his master. Receiving his master as early as age of 10 to become the utmost in efficiency, Butler became the best bodyguard that one could ever have.

Throughout the history, the Butler family has been always the protector of the Fowls. Domovoi has guarded Artemis from the moment of his birth. Whenever Artemis’ plans have gone astray, it is up to Butler to save his master and his plans. Butler is powerful beyond limits. He has crumpled steel reinforced doors, fought an entire LEP Retrieval Team, the finest among the LEP, without him getting harm, and is the only one to defeat a troll in a physical combat and not a mental combat.

But deep inside this strength that he has, Butler is soft-hearted and a loving person. He would do anything for those he cares about. May the odds be in the favors to any creatures who tries to harm them.

Holly Short. Captain Short is an elf, and also the first female officer in the LEP in its history. With this feat, a lot of pressure and discrimination is being thrown at her. Her inspiration is the desire to help the Mud People.

Captain Short, the antagonist of the story, was captured by Artemis in the fourth chapter. However, although Artemis done something wrong to her, she still helped them survived the attack of the troll on the house by healing Butler, enabling him to engaged in battle with the troll.

Julius Root. He is usually angry about one thing or another, a typical type of a boss. He is the Commander of the LEP. At first, he may seem like an unfair and grumpy superior officer, but as soon as the story reaches the end, one may understand that he is just doing his job, and more importantly, he is doing it excellently.

Root is one of the most, if not the most, efficient fairy that one may encounter. He always do his job more superior than anyone doing it ten more times. He yells at a failure, nods at a pass, and credits true success, making a compliment even sweeter. He is responsible for the large number of LEP successful operations. He is feared and respected by many, including his enemies.

Foaly. Foaly is a centaur, and a techie-type of centaur. He is the LEP’s top technician. He have almost every answer to what LEP is in need in terms of equipment and gadgets. Aside from providing gears to LEP, he also helps them through mission by providing assistance and intelligence, but only because it will get him more opportunities to improve his inventions.

Foaly, for the record, has patented more inventions more than anyone else in this world. It is through his works why the fairies, or the People as they call themselves, remain hidden and out of sight of the Mud People. One thing to remember about him is that he welcomes challenges set in front of him. No, he loves them.

However, one must take note of his sarcasm while dealing with him. Not even Commander Root was able to survive this annoying, yet funny attitude of his.

Mulch Diggums. Mulch Diggums is a dwarf, but is different from any dwarf that one can know. He gave up his magical powers a long time ago so that he would be able to do his favorite pass-time, which is stealing things from the Mud People. Despite not having his magical powers, Mulch still has the natural abilities granted solely to dwarves.

Unfortunately for him, he has been caught and arrested by the LEP numerous times, resulting to his several centuries of imprisonment. Despite this lowly feat, Mulch is still considered the greatest burglar ever. This title is not given to him just by anyone, but it is Commander Root that said this one.

Mulch helped Holly Short escape his conqueror, which will then lead to defeat of the fairy race through the hands of Artemis Fowl and his brain.
